NY Mets News and Notes for Monday 1/10

Rumors are beginning to pick up that the Mets might soon make a contract offer to either Chris Young or Jeff Francis.  Well, it’s about time!  The season is fast approaching and the Mets rotation right now looks like Morris Buttermaker’s rotation from the Bad News Bears.  With that said, the Mets have options, but they don’t have a lot of money to spend on their piece of the rotation.  Here’s a look at what I’m reading this morning:

Free Agent Options

MLBTradeRumors.com takes a look at the top 10 remaining free agents.  Almost half of the players on this list are useless to the New York Mets because they are designated hitters and can’t play the field.  The one starting pitcher that is of note is Carl Pavano, but he’s very close to signing a deal with the Minnesota Twins.

Chris Young’s philosophy

Metzilla dug up this previous interview and it was posted on Metsblog.com this morning.  An interesting read on a pitcher the NY Mets are considering taking a run at.

Tuscon Shooting Effects Mets former manager

What a tragedy the shootings in Tuscon were.  Adam Rubin of ESPN.com takes a look at how close the shootings hit to home.  The 9 year old granddaughter of former Mets manager, Dallas Green, was one of the victims.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of the families effected by this tragedy.

Chris Capuano comeback

Mets.com takes a look at Lefty Chris Capuano and why the Mets are the right fit for him to make his comeback.  We like this signing.  Although he has had injuries in the past, if he can regain the form that he showed previously, he can help the Mets in 2011.

We’re still working on the Mets new player signing, still waiting for confirmation from our source.  We thought the process was further along than it apparently was.  As soon as news breaks, you’ll see it here at CitiSlickers.com.
